Why aren't some apps working on my iPhone?

I need help figuring out why certain apps on my iPhone suddenly won’t open or crash right after launching. My phone’s software is up to date and I’ve tried reinstalling the apps, but the problem persists. Is this a common issue, and what can I do to fix it?

Maybe it’s the universe saying, “Hey, stop scrolling and go touch some grass.” But seriously, if your apps are crashing even after reinstalling, it could be a compatibility issue with the app itself. Just because your iPhone is up to date doesn’t mean the developers of those apps are on top of their game. Some apps lag behind on updates and might struggle with the latest iOS.

Also, check your storage—if your phone’s stuffed like a Black Friday sale, it can cause random app crashes. Swipe through your settings, go to General > iPhone Storage, and see if you need to Marie Kondo that thing. Another thing, have you force-closed the apps? Sometimes they lurk in the background being all moody. Swipe up and yeet them off the screen.

In worst-case scenarios, it could be something janky with your phone. Try a hard reboot (press and hold the power + volume down buttons, then slide to power off). If all else fails, reset your settings—Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Don’t worry, it’s not the nuclear option; your data will stay intact, but you’ll lose Wi-Fi passwords and other minor tweaks.

And hey, if none of this works, maybe these apps are just being petty and waiting for their next update. Sit tight. Or call Apple if you want to make it their problem.

Another thing to look into: your network connection. Even with the app installed, some apps need stable internet to function, and if your Wi-Fi or data is acting up, they can crash or refuse to work properly. Before going nuclear with resets, try switching to another network or even toggling Airplane Mode on and off to refresh connections.

@Mike34 makes a good point about background apps causing trouble, but I think he underestimated how much cache buildup can mess up apps. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, click on the app, and see if you can “Offload App” or clear its cache without uninstalling it entirely. Doesn’t work for all apps, though, because some don’t support it (probably just to be “extra,” if we’re being honest).

And let’s not forget battery health. If your phone’s struggling to keep enough juice flowing, some apps might crash just because they’re more power-hungry than others. While it sounds weird, there’s a slight chance. Check your battery stats under Settings > Battery to see if anything looks shady.

Finally, are you running any weird third-party widgets or using services that connect across multiple apps? Sometimes, these little add-ons can cause conflicts. Take a step back and simplify; disable some stuff temporarily and see if these apps finally cooperate. If even THAT doesn’t work, then yeah, maybe send those devs a strongly worded review for slacking on updates.
