What’s the best podcast app?

I’m new to podcasts and looking for recommendations on the best app to use. I want something user-friendly that has a wide variety of shows. Any suggestions?

Check out '! Honestly, new podcast listeners need something simple and intuitive. I’ve tried many and love this one for its clean design. Plus, it has tons of shows.

Seriously, you can find almost anything on it. True crime, tech talks, comedy—you name it. And it’s not glitchy like some of the other apps I’ve tried.

But, don’t take my word for it. Download it and give it a spin. If you’re all about personalization and recommendations, this app uses a smart algorithm to suggest shows you might like. It’s been spot on for me.

Just one issue though, sometimes the notifications can be a bit much if you’re subscribed to a bunch of podcasts. But hey, minor nitpick. You’ll get hooked!

If you’re new to podcasts, I gotta agree, having a user-friendly app is key. While @sognonotturno praises *** that, I do think the app is solid for a lot of reasons they’ve mentioned, I’d like to throw another name in the hat for consideration—Pocket Casts.

Now, Pocket Casts isn’t just sleek and easy to navigate, it’s also incredibly customizable. Not just in the way it looks, but in how you can manage your shows. You can trim silence out of podcasts, speed up playback, and even boost volume on quieter shows. Plus, they have a web player and apps for every major platform.

I didn’t find the notifications overbearing like with ; you can set it up exactly how you want it. Another big plus for me is their extensive search functionality, which is top-notch for discovering new content. Imagine you heard a snippet of some interview and only remember a couple of keywords—Pocket Casts will help you track it down.

However, if you’re mainly looking for an app with a powerful recommendation algorithm, might be more your pace. It’s kind of like the Spotify Discover Weekly but for podcasts; it learns what you listen to and offers incredibly tailored suggestions.

Got to be honest though, I did experience some occasional crashes with . It’s nothing too disruptive, but a heads-up if you’re someone who can’t tolerate those hiccups. Also, Pocket Casts is not free; while the app itself has a one-time purchase fee, they also offer a “Plus” subscription for cloud storage and access to the web player, which might be a turn-off for some.

So, personally, I’d recommend Pocket Casts if you’re looking for an all-around robust and customizable experience. But, if you’re all about ease of use and smart recommendations, might just be exactly what you need. Just make sure to check how each app handles notifications and preferences; a little tweak here and there can really enhance your podcasting journey.
