How do I turn off Vanish Mode on Instagram DMs?

I accidentally turned on Vanish Mode in one of my Instagram chats and now messages keep disappearing. I can’t figure out how to switch it back to normal so the messages stay in the conversation. Can someone walk me through the exact steps to disable Vanish Mode on Instagram DMs on both iPhone and Android?

Happens a lot, Vanish Mode is way too easy to trigger.

Here is how you turn it off on Instagram DMs:

On iPhone or Android app:

  1. Open Instagram.
  2. Go to your DMs.
  3. Open the chat that has Vanish Mode on.
  4. If the background is dark and says something about Vanish Mode, do this:
    • Put your finger at the bottom of the screen.
    • Swipe up like you are pulling the chat up.
    • Let go.
  5. You should see the screen switch back to normal, light background.
  6. At the top it should say Vanish Mode off.

Alternative way in some versions:

  1. Open the same chat.
  2. Tap the person’s name at the top.
  3. Look for Vanish Mode in the options.
  4. Toggle it off.

Some extra notes:

  • Once you turn it off, new messages in that chat stay.
